BACKGROUND WAS Quaker Schooling and Culver Military Academy. With 11th Armored Division in 56th Armored Engineer Bn; Normandy by LST; Bastogne thru Siegfried Line. Division led Third Army into Austria. Met Russians between Linz and Vienna. Company commander, part-time Task Force CO, two PHs. Battalion CO 41st Engineer Regt and 358th Engineer Regt.
Then observer for Navy expedition to Antarctic. MIT, MS in CE; designed tank-launched bridge A VLB; Advanced Course Armored School. Baltimore Assistant District Engineer. Met and married Major Muriel Moran, USAF! Korean Military Advisory Group, then Fort Devens. Next Germany as CO 78th Engineer Cbt Bn and CO 555 Engineer Cbt Gp. In DC, managed Army’s R&D laboratories. In Vietnam, Engineer Constr Agency and Headquarters USARV. Completed a satisfying career with three years in USAREUR.
Lawyer son, Ed, is an administrative law judge; architect Ann, managed Willard Hotel rehab; Richard, director of professional services for local hospital; lawyer, Joan, Prince George’s County Assistant States Attorney, (daughter Elizabeth); investment banker, Lisa, (Chelsea, Haley, and Meredith); Muriel, appointed three terms (six years) to Washington Metropolitan Council of Governments Advisory Group, Fairfax Commission on Aging, and Kennedy Center Volunteer. |
