I WAS BORN AT WEST POINT and as long as I can remember I wanted to be a cadet. After one year at the University of Missouri and a year in prep school, I became a member of our class. I enjoyed my cadet years. After the basic course at Benning, I attended Parachute School and was assigned to the G Company, 513th PIR, and since I was the senior officer (thanks to our four months promotion to 1st Lieutenant), I became the Company Commander.
Louise and I were married in Japan, and Pamela was born at West Point. After the advanced course in 195152, I commanded the Third Battalion, 32nd Infantry, 7th Division in Korea. The next ten years were spent at Leavenworth, England, the War College, and the Pentagon.
After Vietnam, I went to CINCPAC in Hawaii. Two fine years there and back to Benning as CO of the Combat Development Command Infantry Agency. I then went to Ft. Rucker to learn to fly a helicopter and then to the Combat Development Command Experimentation Command at Ft. Ord as CG. Another tour in Vietnam and wound things up as Deputy CG, MDW. |
