I HAD ALWAYS HAD A DESIRE to go to West Point and worked hard to get in. I wanted to be in any part of the Army, but the Air Corps was my choice. I wanted to be a flier and also felt that I would do best as an airman. I flew B-26 bombers in Europe during World War II. My group had one of the best records and we were proud of that.
Being regular Army, I had to remain another year after the war in the Occupation. Barbara and I learned early that service included separations. My next assignment was in the Pentagon in R&D. I had a very rewarding tour later at USMA on the superintendent’s staff. This was where Ann and Bret were born. I was in the Far East during the Korean War.
I later spent some seventeen years on several development programs at Northrop Aircraft in California, which I liked doing. I may have guided my career in more profitable ways, but not more satisfying. Barbara and I hold many pleasant memories of being part of the Army and Air Force. Barbara was a consummate service wife, and I owe a great deal of my satisfaction to her support. |
