Marvin Jay BerenzweigMARVIN JAY (BWIG) BERENZWEIG, upon graduation from UCLA with a BA degree and reserve officer’s Infantry commission, entered West Point, was graduated and commissioned as an Infantry officer serving in the Pacific War — New Guinea, the Philippines, and initial occupation of Japan. Following a tour at the Infantry School, duty with the 11th Airborne Division, and completion of the National Intelligence School, DC, he served in Europe as an unconventional warfare specialist and then as Military Secretary to CINCSOUTH. Following completion of the Command and General Staff College, he commanded a battalion in the 82nd Airborne Division, the Infantry Section (1802d) at West Point, was graduated from the National War College, commanded a Battle Group of the 1st Cavalry Division in Korea, served on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, became executive and senior aide to the Army Chief of Staff, commanded a Brigade in the 1st Air Cavalry Division in the Republic of Vietnam, and, after serving several years on CINCPAC’s staff, was retired from active duty. Bwig married Priscilla Hammel in 1946. They have a son, John; a daughter, Priscilla; and three grandchildren.

Marvin Jay BerenzweigAfter retirement from the Army, Bwig received a master’s degree from the University of Hawaii. He then served for several years with the State of Hawaii’s civil defense agency, retiring as the Vice Director. In 1984, he was designated a member of the National Defense Executive Reserve.
